Suicide Prevention Training

In response to feedback from carers, we’re offering a series of 4 free Suicide Prevention Training sessions.

These will be led by Mark Willis, former York Mind staff member and founder of Wider Sky, his own training business.

When: Tuesday 22 April , 6 – 8 pm

Where: Friends Meeting House, Friargate, York YO1 9RL.

We recommend attending all 4 sessions for maximum benefit.

Places are limited and available by booking only.

Substance Misuse and Gambling Carer Support Group (in-person)

Substance Misuse and Gambling Carer Support Group

We run support groups for anyone affected by someone else’s substance misuse and / or gambling. Our Carer Support Workers and volunteers with lived experience can talk to you about your caring role and offer tips and coping strategies, as well as signpost you to other support services.

When: Monday 28 April, 12 – 2 pm

Wellbeing Group for Mental Health Carers

This is a friendly and relaxed group for anyone who supports someone with a mental health condition.

It’s a time to focus on your own wellbeing, connect with others who share similar experiences, and take part in gentle activities.

Please note: the group now meets on the last Tuesday of each month (previously the last Wednesday.)

When: Tuesday 29 April, 6.15 – 8.15 pm

Carer Awareness Training

This training is an opportunity for professionals to learn more about York Carers Centre, and the support available for unpaid carers in York.

This training will help to improve your understanding of:
• the role of carers
• the effect this role has on their lives

It’s also an opportunity to explore how professionals can:
• help identify carers early
• recognise carers as ‘partners’ in care
• help carers look after their own health and wellbeing

Carers Connect - Haxby

Carers Connect

We run two monthly support groups for unpaid carers in York, providing a space to connect, share experiences, and receive peer support from others who understand your situation.

Our Carer Support Workers and volunteers facilitate these groups and are on hand to discuss any concerns, challenges and successes related to your caring role.

We welcome any carers to the groups; if you are not registered with us, you can register during the group.

When: Wednesday 30 April, 1 – 2.30 pm

Where: Oaken Grove Community Centre, Haxby, YO32 3QW

There’s no need to book. Just drop in.

Young Adult Carer Socials

Young Adult Carer Socials

Have a break from your caring role, meet other young people who live in similar circumstances, get involved, eat food and relax!

These events are for Young Adult Carers aged 18 – 25 however young carers aged 16+ are also welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Social is usually held at SPARK on the last Wednesday of the month. We have food available from the Spark Street Food Vendors from 5 – 6.30 pm and then an organised activity with guests from 6.30 – 8 pm.

You can find us on the tables at the back of the venue from 5 pm!

Arrive when you like and stay for as long as you like! Any questions please get in touch.

Live Music Fundraiser – Don’t Tell Jane.

We’re thrilled to announce an exciting fundraiser organised by a group of local carers – bringing you a Country Americano Folk night at the Moxy Hotel.

Join us on Thursday 1 May, from 7:30 pm, as we come together for a fantastic evening showcasing local performers – all in support of York Carers Centre.

A huge thank you to Miles for organising this fundraiser – we really appreciate it. We’re also grateful to Moxy Hotel for generously providing the venue free of charge, and of course, to the talented performers: Don’t Tell Jane, Ruby Slater, and Crowded Shed.

Young Carers - Primary Youth Club (LAFFS)

Youth Club

Our youth clubs are just for young carers (aged 5 – 16 years). We have separate groups – primary and secondary – so that young carers of the same age can be together.

The youth clubs give young carers a break and a chance to spend time with other young people who live in similar circumstances.

We enjoy arts and crafts, baking, drama, sports, music and Xbox!
