We run two monthly support groups for unpaid carers in York, providing a space to connect, share experiences, and receive peer support from others who understand your situation.
Our Carer Support Workers and volunteers facilitate these groups and are on hand to discuss any concerns, challenges and successes related to your caring role.
We welcome any carers to the groups; if you are not registered with us, you can register during the group.

Visit to the market and special ‘Pickling Workshop’ with Chef Jim Gilroy!
Join us for a visit to the Food Circle project with a look round the sustainable food market, a special meal and a ‘Pickling Workshop’ run by Tang of Tang Hall’s Head Chef Jim Gilroy!
Food Circle is a Community Interest Company that runs a market, twice a week, at Tang Hall Community Centre. Their focus is on good quality local, seasonal produce. Organic or unsprayed/low input wherever possible. The market has a selection of fresh vegetables from local sources. It also has dry stores, dairy, frozen meat & fish. The majority of their suppliers are small scale, and have values aligned to the Food Circle way. Food Circle also hosts the popular “Tang” food event each month with Tang of Tang Hall showcasing Chef Jim’s pickles, preserves and more.

Do you love crafting?
Do you want to connect with other carers whilst getting creative?
Why not join us for a relaxed, informal craft group where you can work on your own project alongside fellow crafty carers.
Sharron Smith and Alison Wheatley will be at the group to greet you and provide refreshments.

Carers café and campus tour
Join us for a carers café in the dining room extension at York St John University for hot drinks and cakes. Hosted by Specialist Support Advisers this session is a chance to meet up with friends from our group and to meet new friends who are unpaid carers attending York St John Uni. After the carers café we will have a chance to go on a tour of some of the campus highlights with the Widening Participation Team

Our youth clubs are just for young carers (aged 5 – 16 years). We have separate groups – primary and secondary – so that young carers of the same age can be together.
The youth clubs give young carers a break and a chance to spend time with other young people who live in similar circumstances.
We enjoy arts and crafts, baking, drama, sports, music and Xbox!

We run support groups for anyone affected by someone else’s substance misuse and / or gambling. Our Carer Support Workers and volunteers with lived experience can talk to you about your caring role and offer tips and coping strategies, as well as signpost you to other support services.
When: Tuesday 4 February, 6 – 7.30 pm

The Carers Action Group brings together unpaid carers, York Carers Centre staff, and professionals to discuss key issues, ensuring carers’ voices are heard and their concerns are addressed.
We take action by communicating what matters to relevant agencies, creating opportunities for change and improvements.
This meeting will focus on the new City of York Carers Strategy and York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals Carer Improvement Plan.
We will also be exploring how to better capture the voices of carers through our new website.
We’re always excited to welcome new members – your voice and ideas matter to us!

This group is for anyone supporting someone with a mental health condition, offering a break from caring responsibilities and a chance to connect with other carers.
Some sessions feature guest speakers, while others focus on providing mutual support and sharing coping strategies.
New members are always welcome. This group is run in partnership with Rethink Mental Illness York Group.
