Young carers make a new film

Young carers in York have worked with our staff to create a short film to highlight what it’s like to be a young carer and how having the right support can really help.

Our staff worked with pupils who attend Vale Of York Academy’s young carer drop-in, who generated ideas for the film. We then ran a series of full-day workshops with young carers from several schools across York, to further develop the ideas and create the final film, along with a film producer.

The sessions were a great opportunity for young people of all ages to experience working together on a creative project along with a creative professional, and to have their ideas and experiences translated into something to help reach other young people who might be struggling.
Our thanks go to City of York Council’s Rawcliffe Ward and Clifton-Without Ward who funded this project and have supported young people in York to have their voice heard.
