New support for young carers and their families

We have been successful in a funding bid to provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and family support to carers aged 11 to 24 years.

The project is now underway and new staff-member Emily McIver along with Jess Tomori (above), who previously managed the young adult carer service, will be working with carers and their families for up to six months.

Young people who are struggling with their mental health will do CBT with Jess, helping them to develop tools and skills to improve and manage their wellbeing. Alongside this, Emily will support their families in a range of different ways, from advocating for additional support, to sourcing practical items like washing machines or bus passes.

They also hope to offer activities and even breaks away so families can enjoy time together away from the stresses of everyday life.

During the three year project, around 20 individuals and their families will be supported.
