- Creative Crafts (with York Learning)

In partnership with York Learning, our free 10 week Creative Crafts course just for York Carers Centre, will give you the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at a wide variety of craft techniques within a friendly and supportive environment.

There will be time to practice, explore and to develop new skills, taught to you by tutor Debs New, and support will be given to help you experiment with materials and to develop your own ideas. The techniques that will be taught will include felt making, collage, simple printing and embroidery.

There will be plenty of materials and fabrics to practice with, however, you may bring things in that you have at home to allow you to personalise your work.

Sessions will be informal and there will be chance to chat to our staff and other carers.

 

When: Every Monday from 20 September until 22 November (10 weeks), from 10am to 11.30am

You’re also welcome to book a place for the person you care for.

We are working within Covid-safety guidance, and to ensure everyone stays safe we require all attendees to book a place beforehand.

Carers Hub: Clifton

Come and see us for a chat at one of our friendly in-person Carer Hubs in the coming months.

The Hubs are a great opportunity to catch up with our staff and other carers, ask any questions and get advice you might need, along with some nice refreshments!

Come along to any or all of the hubs, no matter where you live in York, and you’re very welcome to bring the person you care for too.

To ensure the Hubs are as safe as possible we are using closed venues, rather than drop-in venues, for now.

Please do book in advance to attend the Hubs, even if it is just a day or two before. This helps us make sure we don’t exceed maximum numbers. Contact to book: events@yorkcarerscentre.co.uk

-Substance Misuse Carers Group

This supportive session is for people affected by someone else’s substance misuse and is a chance to talk to other carers and our staff.

New members are very welcome, and if you haven’t attended before our facilitator will offer you a telephone appointment beforehand.

It runs on the third Wednesday of each month from 1.30 to 3pm.

The group is currently on Zoom however you can also dial in via telephone if preferred.

-Mental Health Carers Drop In

This informal, supportive session is for people who help care or support someone with a mental health condition.

It’s primarily aimed at people new to caring, caring for someone in crisis or caring for young people. However we welcome anyone caring for someone with a mental health condition to this group.

It runs on the last Wednesday of each month from 6.15 to 7.15pm.

The group will be held in-person, at York St John University.

-Gambling and Substance Misuse Carers Group

This group is for people who are supporting someone through issues with gambling and/or substance misuse.

We know that some carers may find it difficult to attend groups during the day, so this group is held in the evenings.

You’ll be offered a telephone appointment beforehand to answer any questions you may have.

It runs on the first Tuesday of each month from 6 to 8pm. The group is currently on Zoom however you can also dial in via telephone if preferred.

Create Arts: Creative Writing

Join us and national charity Create Arts for a fantastic opportunity to express yourself and your experiences of caring, using the art of creative writing.

This course of online workshops will enable you to explore your creativity, have fun and express your ideas through writing by using your experiences to make a difference.

No prior experience or skill required; we have a professional artist coming to run these workshops who will make it all happen.

When: Thursdays from 4 November to 16 December.

Time: 10.30am to 12.45pm each week.

Where: Zoom.
