Funding news: funds received for young carers
We’re grateful to Aviva’s Community Fund for donating to our Young Carers Get Active project, bringing our total up to the target of £3000.
York Carers Centre works with around 150 children in York aged 5 to 18 who look after a family member with a physical or mental illness, disability or addiction. With some children spending 50 hrs of care for a family member per week they can struggle to attend and achieve at school and often don’t have the time or family income to take part in clubs, hobbies and activities. Young carers’ education, development and health can be significantly impacted, lasting into adulthood.
So we were delighted to find out that our Young Carers Get Active project had been selected to receive donations from Aviva, bringing our total up to the overall target of £3000. The funds will be used to support young carers to take part in healthy hobbies and activities to support their wellbeing, things that they may not normally get chance to take part in due to poverty or lack of time, such as sports, dance cubs and brownies.
