Carer Peer Supporters  (casual)

(Approximately 5 hours per week to be worked flexibly including some evening work)
Contract: one year with potential for extension depending on funding

Hourly rate: £11.52

Do you have experience of providing unpaid care to someone with mental ill health? Do you feel you are in a position to use this experience to support others?

We are looking for peer supporters from a range of backgrounds and experiences so please don’t think this is not you – you might be exactly the type of person we are looking for.

As a Carer Peer Supporter, you will join our friendly dedicated team helping unpaid carers to maintain their health and wellbeing through the provision of information, advice and support.

The role will involve delivering regular drop-in sessions specifically for carers of people with mental ill health, providing a point of contact for information, advice and support to those carers visiting people in Foss Park hospital, and a link into regular groups/other support services.

This is an exciting opportunity for people who have a genuine interest in using their own experience to support others, enjoy working on a casual basis and want to be part of a new way of working in York.

If you have experience of caring for someone with mental ill health, who may have been in and out of hospital, and you possess excellent listening skills, tact, sensitivity, and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of individuals, whilst maintaining clear professional boundaries, then we would be pleased to hear from you.

Successful applicants will receive full training and be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS).

We offer a supportive working environment with learning and development opportunities, 29 days holiday per year plus public holidays, reduced pro rata, and a contributory pension scheme.

Much of the role will be based at Foss Park hospital.

If you would like to know more, please contact us on 01904 715490 or email

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 11th August 2021

We are committed to equal opportunities for all and would especially welcome applications from carers with BAME backgrounds.
