Updates from the young carer service

In the past few months..

The young carer team have been busy running a range of autumn sessions for children and young people, including arts and crafts, cooking lessons, trampolining, outdoor bush craft and den building. These activities were thoroughly enjoyed by all, offering a break, fun, a chance to try something new and time spent meeting and catching up with other young people in similar circumstances.

We’ve also had our young carers Christmas party which was kindly funded by York Rotary Club. Everyone enjoyed taking part in Christmas party games, baking and decorating ginger bread people, pass the parcel, a buffet and prizes throughout the evening.

Next year we have lots to look forward to. The young carer team will be working closely with schools to raise awareness of young carers and their needs, and to help identify hidden young carers. We will be taking part in Young Carers Action Day and helping to tackle isolation amongst young people. The team will also be busy planning more activities for February half term.

What young carers have said to us recently:

“I’m actually enjoying life.”

“I enjoyed making hammocks and making dens. I would probably of just been sat on my phone or computer!”

“Sometimes it’s tough but you get through it here. You make friends and have fun!”
